| Shutlingsloe is known locally as the 'Matterhorn of
Cheshire' for its distinct shapely peak in an otherwise
rolling white peak area or in comparison to the rest of
the county of Cheshire that is famously flat. This is
not the highest peak in Cheshire but is by far the most
popular. Its popularity is mainly due to its fairly easy
access which is reflected in this walk. This is the easiest
ascent up a hill which when viewed from some directions
demands more respect than its actually worthy of. This
walk starts from the National Trust car park in the lush
and well preserved Macclesfield Forest then leads out
onto open marshy moorland before a steep but also short
and simple ascent to the lofty summit. The variation of
the easy forestry woodland paths and the easilly accessed
peak make this a classic walk. |
