| The five Langdale Pikes consist of, from west to east,
Pike Of Stickle, Loft Crag, Thorn Crag, Harrison Stickle
and Pavey Ark. Each has its own characteristics and is
in its own right a mountain. They do seem to be made from
one huge original mountain due to there shape and close
proximity. Not only are the Langdale Pikes by far the
most recognisable and impressive examples of Lake District
igneous rock, but they also overlook one of the nations
favourite views, the Langdale Valley. Langdale can be
over popular during peak times but don't let this put
you off. The walk itself starts in the lovely village
of Chapel Stile at one end of the valley and then follows
the Blea Rigg ridge on the north side of the valley until
it reaches the above Stickle Tarn. After bagging the pikes
and taking in the views the descent and then valley walk
back to Chapel Stile will entail resisting the urge to
enter some of the best outdoors pubs in Britain including
the Old Dungeon Ghyll. |
